In Praise of Innocence
Henk van Kerkwijk (1940) choose David Winwood as his penname when he realized that his London neighbours couldn‘t get their tongue round the bewildering collection of k's and r's printed in his passport. In Scotland it wouldn‘t have been a problem, of course. As a writer he received a string of literary awards in the sixties and early seventies. A trend which in later years continued in a more modest way, with various runners-up, honourable mentions and selections in anthologies, such as his inclusion in "Best Australian Poetry 2005".
